AE Blog - Risk Management Webinar – Claim Case Study: The Case of the Cracked Apron

Hall & Company invites you and your staff to participate in an online risk management webinar:  Claim Case Study: The Case of the Cracked Apron.  In this webinar,  John Lowe of Lowe Consulting, LLC addresses the design and construction of concrete flatwork that cracked badly shortly after being placed.  This  case study provides the nature and severity of the cracking, the analysis of what caused the cracking, the procedure used to develop the remedial action to deal with the cracked concrete, the process used to manage the contractor’s claim, and lessons learned are presented in the presentation.  This webinar will provide the following learning objectives:

  •  Learn how to design and specify concrete flat work to minimize uncontrolled cracking 
  •  Learn how to identify construction practices that contribute to uncontrolled concrete cracking
  • Learn the benefit of having a solid client/consultant relationship when construction problems occur
  • Learn how to manage solving contractor caused construction problems

John M. Lowe, Jr., P.E. is a 1961 civil engineering graduate of the University of Florida and is a Professional Engineer in OR, CA, and FL.  During his more than 45 years as a consulting engineer, John’s varied career has included the disciplines of transportation, environmental engineering, and providing interdisciplinary services to architects and other engineering firms.  Earlier in his career, John served for three years as a Field Engineer for the Portland Cement Association during which he gained valuable knowledge in the areas of concrete technology and construction practices.
