Legal Issues for Design Professionals: Understanding the Law of Architectural Copyright
It is not unusual for design professionals to be asked by a client to use drawings designed by another design professional. The risk involved in this transaction is not taking the necessary defensive measures. Participants of this webinar will learn how to distinguish what constitutes a copyright and how to protect it, how to review potential infringement damages and equitable relief and how to avoid violating another party’s copyrights.
Speaker: Bruce Demeter
Bruce previously was a Senior Vice President at OneBeacon Insurance Group. There he developed and managed the Design Professionals Liability product line and managed and mentored 8 underwriters to develop a profitable book of business. Prior to joining OneBeacon, Bruce was a professional product underwriting manager at Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company and XL Insurance.
He has published articles on the construction industry and has been a featured speaker at many national association and organization meetings. He has developed course work on reviewing contracts, protecting contract rights, and avoiding risk. He authors the AIC Mr. Ethics column. Bruce is an American Arbitration Association certified Arbitrator, Mediator, Municipal Mediator, and Residential Arbitrator. Bruce holds a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law with Honors as well as a MA and BA with Honors from the University of Delaware where he was a member of their Political Science faculty.
